Program Notes

The academic environment at SUMaC is intentionally non-competitive. Participants are not assigned scores or grades on any of the course work; however, they receive regular feedback from the instructional staff.
Assignments
Daily assignments include problems in a range of difficulties so everyone will find something at their right level; the goal is for each participant to have an individual experience that will be both challenging and rewarding.
Group Work
Participants also work in research-project teams every Friday, guided by teaching assistants. This is a valuable opportunity to work collaboratively and to develop skills for research as well as for communicating advanced mathematics.
Advanced Research
This component of the program provides the opportunity to pursue topics in greater depth, using books, journal articles, and other resources, culminating in a short presentation to the class at the end of the program.
